A metaphor for perseverance, timing and a little faith.

Growing up, my family ate a lot of pasta. One of my favorite memories is running into the kitchen with my dad and throwing not one, but many strands of spaghetti against the wall. I’d call it one of my favorite “life-tricks” to know when the pasta is ready. When it sticks on the wall, it’s ready to eat.

And if only life was as easy as throwing spaghetti to the wall. But let me tell you, I think that’s what we’ve got to do! Over and over again, with a tired arm we must keep throwing our spaghetti to the wall.

And when it sticks? Hallelujah.

What Life-Spaghetti Are You Throwing?

Our life-spaghetti are the things in our lives that deserve exploration and experimentation and perseverance to discover what or who will fit best inside our hearts and in our lives. Amongst all the people we meet, and new experiences we try- our spaghetti are the ones that stick around.

Our spaghetti could be job applications to find that next job. Or it could be friend dates, and romantic dates- finding the people we want to cherish and spend our quality time with. Our spaghetti could be different cities until one feels like home. Or it could be finding an emotional outlets that works for you, or a workout routine, a new hobby, or perhaps a new friend.

Perfect timing is waiting for you.

The thing about perfect timing is, it doesn’t come without hard work. You must walk tirelessly in the direction of good things for good things to happen.

The pasta wont cook itself if you don’t boil the water first. Quality friends require consistent effort, exploring a new city takes bravery and curiosity. And a new workout regimen means trying something new over and over again until you nip it in the butt- until it STICKS!

So, whatever it may be that isn’t quite happening the way you thought it would, or perhaps not as fast as you wish- keep trying and give it time. Trust in yourself that you are giving it the attention and effort it needs.

Take a second and think: which spaghetti have already stuck on your walls? Celebrate those wins! Now go make some pasta and throw it on the wall for me.
